November Virtual Meeting Overview

Happy Holidays Friends! It’s been a while since we’ve checked in. We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy this season.

This month’s FURL meeting primarily centered around the final results of our Fall Fundraiser. Thanks to the generosity of the Urbana community, FURL was able to raise a grand total of $3,047.84. This is incredible! It is amazing to live in a community that values its library and services even in the most difficult of times.

The money we raise continues to support the library staff. The last few months we have purchased snacks and ice cream to help support library morale. We are also donating money for staff holiday activities and gifts.

The library is still in phase 1 of reopening, this includes curb-side pickup and virtual programming. With Covid cases rising, and more restrictions coming from the state, when they will move to phase 2 is unknown. Despite building closures, Urbana and other Frederick County Public Libraries continue to expand services. Some newer features include personalized pickswireless printing pick up, live tutoring through BrainFuse, and Smart Start learning kits for preschoolers.

FURL is also starting a new Local Author Spotlight Series. If you or anyone you know is a published author that lives, works, or is otherwise has a connection to the area served by the Urbana Regional Library, please reach out to us at Furl@friendsurbana.com.

If you are an Amazon shopper, you can continue your support of the Urbana Regional Library using Amazon Smile. By designating “Friends of the Urbana Regional Library” as your chosen charity Amazon will donate a portion of your purchases to FURL.

The December FURL meeting has been cancelled. Our next FURL meeting will be January 12, 2021 at 6:30 via Zoom.
