Through input from library staff and FURL volunteers, FURL promotes, supports, and supplements events and activities. FURL is able to update and enhance spaces at the Urbana Regional Library. We are able to go beyond the budget allotted by the Frederick County Public Libraries (FCPL). We raise funds, mainly through your donations and our twice annual used book sale. Then, we turn around and put that money right back into the library! Here are just some of the things FURL has been able to help fund:
Construction of the Early Literacy Play and Learning Space in the children's area, which opened in February 2018, with a one-time $20,000 donation;
Contributed $500.00 to the 2019 National Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.
The FCPL Summer Reading Program for years (including an $850 donation for 2019);
The purchase of new Lego blocks, a puppet theater, Pokémon program supplies, the replacement of worn out upholstery, the purchase of "Backjax" seats for parent/children programs, and break room and cleaning supplies for Library staff;
The purchase of food for staff events, and recently celebrated employees with lunch and cookies for National Library Workers Day;
Free popcorn to the public at each viewing of the Starlight Film Festival;
A $1500 expense for an upcoming refresh of the teen section of the library;
Supplies for seniors programing.
