Between our beloved Frederick County Public Libraries reopening, going fine-free, and the return of the annual Summer Reading Program…we are in for a treat this summer!
Friends of the Urbana Regional Library (FURL) is proud and excited to be a sponsor for FCPL’s Summer Reading Program. We spoke with FCPL Children’s Service Supervisor Ms. Mindy, and she gave us all the details you’ll want to know.
The Summer Reading Challenge is for all ages with activities and “game boards” for adults, teens, elementary, and littles. Participants will be able to earn points by reading, completing activities, and visiting community partner destinations either online or in person. The challenge can also be completed virtually like last summer, for those whom prefer.
This year’s “Rediscover the Magic” theme runs from June 1 through August 31, 2021. Participants earn a small finisher prize after logging/earning 1000 points, and another at 5000 points. Along the way, there are also virtual tickets to earn at various point levels which participants can use to enter prize drawings. Ticketed prize drawings will take place on September 1.
Interested in participating? Visit http://www.fcpl.org/summer to register and find information, FAQ, printable game boards. There is also a link to download the Beanstack app which participants can use to register, log their reading, and track their progress as they complete activities and visit destinations. There are several tutorial videos available on the FCPL Youtube channel. People are also more than welcome to call their local branch—the librarians can register folks and even help log their points.
