Book Review: Horse Diaries Series

IN OUR LATEST NEW SERIES OF BOOK REVIEWS BY CURRENT FURL MEMBERS, WE PRESENT OUR FOURTH EDITION. THE FOLLOWING REVIEW IS WRITTEN BY COMMITTEE MEMBER SUSAN BOZAK.

Sixteen different breeds of horses narrate this unique series “Horse Diaries”. Written by a variety of authors this series gives the reader a look into their respective breeds’ lives and how they play a role in horse history.

These breeds span across the globe; from beautiful Friesian horses and the famous Lipizzaner Stallions, to the Clydesdale who pulls the hay in the summer and the sleigh in the winter. From the Palominos who worked the Gold Rush and raced across the Wild West providing mail service with the Pony Express, to the Dapple Grey horse who pulls the fire truck braving the flames. The reader is transported back into time when horses played a critical role in our history before firetrucks, cars, mail trucks and plows were in existence.

An appendix follows each story with photos, facts about the horses and history about the year the diary was written.

This series of books are available at the Urbana Regional Library. The series is published by Penguin Random House and has a Facebook page to stay updated on future releases.
